A Walk in the Northern Dales – Introduction

In the summer of 2007 I walked a three day route in the Pennines. I’d hiked the Dales Way in April, and planned to visit the Cumbria Way in September. There was a need to do something between the two expeditions to prevent myself from becoming too decrepit.

By combining day sections from the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Walk, and linking them with a leg very loosely based on a segment of Lady Anne’s Way, I’d got myself a walk. A good one too, linking the upper valleys of the Ure, Eden and Swale.
